Surry Hills Festival

Darlilnghurst Dental will be hosting a stall at Surry Hills Festival on Saturday 23 September. This year the Surry Hills Festival will also be the launch of Double Take, a 3 week long art projection and pop-up festival. With Surry Hills and Darlinghurst bursting with creativity and vibrancy, we expect this to be a wonderful event for all the family.

Surry Hills Festival celebrates all there is to love about Surry Hills with great art, local food & produce, an open air picnic, music and more. The festival is family focused so there is events and activities for those of all ages. Proceeds from sponsors and events go towards Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, which helps to serve the needs of the marginalised in Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, such as people with low income, the elderly, homeless, people with social anxieties or mental illness and people from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds. Our diverse community is what makes our neighbourhood great, but sometimes diversity makes it harder to fit in and this festival aims to bring us all together.

We will be hosting a stall and offering free oral cancer screenings to the Surry Hills and Darlinghurst community, so invite friends to come along if wishes to have one. The cancer screening is free, but we would appreciate a gold coin donation to The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation for anyone that has one. As I’m sure most of our patients know, every time we do a dental check up for your teeth, we also screen the soft tissues for oral cancer, as well as checking for gum disease and other oral conditions, such as bruxism. Come visit our stall to see some of our range of oral health aids, electric toothbrushes and to enter a competition to win some.

The forecast for this Saturday is unseasonably warm, at 33 degrees, so we expect it to be a lovely day for the festival. Make sure you are well hydrated. In the spirit of oral cancer screening, don’t forget to slip, slap, slop and remember that the use of a lip balm with an SPF can help to protect you from oral cancer of the lips.
